an ecologist with an obession

Jared graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Conservation Biology and spent six years with the Bureau of Land Management in Idaho—starting as a field technician and eventually managing multiple natural resource programs. His work spanned everything from fisheries and habitat restoration to wildfire ecology.

After volunteering as an EMT in his rural community, Jared realized his true calling was working directly with people. He left the BLM to pursue nursing and is now completing an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with plans to become a nurse practitioner.

Still, the love of the wild runs deep. The lessons learned from nature, science, and experience continue to shape his life and work. Through Wild Ways, Jared shares the knowledge, curiosity, and adventure that have always guided his path.

I go check out three different sites that were mined for agate. I went to a moss agate site, then explored a little around to find some new stuff, then I went to a white plume agate site that was full of abandoned agate boulders. Finally, I went to a blue plume agate site that had some stunning pieces. I end packing out a huge boulder to keep in my rock garden. I also do some vlogging and share some of my personal history. Didn't Expect A Trout This Big Up Here!
I spent the night in the mountains revisiting a fishing spot I haven't been to in years. I caught plenty of cutthroats and brown trout on flies I tied, and I got soaked in a big rainstorm. The elk were bugling and the coyotes were howling. It was a great recharge and last hurrah on the creek before winter.
